Ambridge Area Food Pantry
A program of the Center for Hope providing food to persons who are unable to purchase enough food for themselves and their families because of an emergency or other crisis. Clients sign up in advance by appointment. Call 724-251-4899 during business hours.

Adult Literacy Action - Penn State Beaver
ALA provides a comprehensive education, training, research and service program. It matches adults with a trained volunteer to work on basic skills (One-to-One Tutoring); teaches foreign-born adults to read, write and speak conversational English and prepare for naturalization and daily living skills; identifies and remedies an employee's basic skill needs (Workforce Education); provides free day and evening instruction in math, writing, mechanical comprehension, test taking and study skills, pre-GED and refresher courses.
After School Program
Includes on site help with homework, use of computer lab, snack and activity.
OVR Disability Services
OVR is the Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, a state agency
that provides services to help persons with disabilities prepare for, start,
and maintain employment. OVR provides a wide range of services to eligible
applicants. The services you receive will be arranged to meet your
individual needs.
The New Castle OVR District Office provides services to the following
counties: Beaver, Butler, Lawrence, and Armstrong. To learn more

opportunities for individuals with disabilities to become productive and

WIC - Women, Infants, and Children
Food, nutrition counseling, access to health services, and referral to other health, welfare and social services are provided to low-income women, infants, and children under the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, popularly known as WIC.
WIC is a supplemental nutrition program that can help provide nutritious foods for women who are pregnant, who have just had a baby or who are breastfeeding. WIC also provides food for infants and children up to the age of five years.
Whether you are working or unemployed you may br eligible for WIC.
WIC of Beaver County serves approximately 3,100 participants each month.
Salvation Army of Ambridge
Small service unit of volunteers offers some services to those in need.
The Benefit Bank
Connects communities and their residents to available resources for low and moderate income families.
Directors' Closet
Provides emergency food in between food pantry distributions for those in crisis. Call in advance for appointment.
Kid's Kitchen Meetings
Kids in the youth program enjoy "kitchen meetings" every Wednesday. Class discusses balanced meals, collecting recipes, how to prepare light snacks, participation in program that is serving food that is catered and other lifelong skills.
Pet Food Distribution
Lower income clients in the Center for Hope Ambridge Area Food Pantry also benefit from the pet food donated each month by Animal Friends. Pet food distributed with people food each month.
Homeless Needs
Individuals who face losing their homes or individuals living "house to house" contact us for some personal care items and food in pop top cans. We also educate the homeless on the names of groups in our network who serve the homeless.
Lending Library
Open during business hours, the Lending Library offers books to take home on the honor system. An assortment of children's books also available.
Bible Ministry
Thanks to the kindness of area churches, we have Bibles for individuals who do not have a bible in their homes. Sign up for a free bible at the Center for Hope information desk.
Choral Class
Every Monday - children learn to sing as a group with "Miss Holly" as their coach. This year the group will be preparing to perform for various groups. Choral classes are a part of the after school program.
Lunch and Learn Programs
Individuals 50 and over enjoy a catered lunch while learning about topics of interest to older individuals. This program is typically held once a month on a Thursday. Generally, this program includes at least two field trips. Advance registration is required. Speakers provided by Heritage Valley.
Interfaith Council
Representatives of churches supporting the Center for Hope meet to discuss ways to work together to better serve those in need of Center for Hope programs.
The Snack Pack Project
Ladies of Charity supply after school snacks to the Center for Hope youth group. Kids tuck the snacks in their back packs to take home for extra nutrition.
Free Summer Lunch Program
Thanks to a collaboration with the Beaver County YMCA, the Center for Hope is a host site to greet kids up to 18 years old with a free lunch. Program typically runs from mid-June to early August and includes a bagged lunch daily Monday - Friday, with employees of the YMCA serving the lunch and providing games, crafts, etc. before and after lunch. Pick up a flyer mid-May for more details on the 2011 summer program.
Community Dinners
Held one Thursday a month thanks to the Presbyterian Church Sewickley. Food Pantry clients receive a free pass for dinner. Typically, the dinner runs from 5:00 - 6:00pm and is held in the large activity/banquet room at the Center for Hope.
Cheerleading Classes
Mondays the Center for Hope provides space for cheerleading classes for kids of all ages.
